Ian Goodall
On the 8th of February 2000 Ian Goodall aged
seventeen, died after a nine-month battle with leukaemia.
He endured the harrowing chemotherapy treatment with immense courage only for the
leukaemia to return within weeks of ending the treatment. Everyone was shocked at the news
and could not believe what they were being told.
Ian lived for and loved motorcycling especially Enduro racing which he had just
recently taken up before being diagnosed with leukaemia. He started biking on an old air
cooled Malaguti 50 ran around on that for a few years then permanently borrowed his
dads YZ125 and started to compete against his older brother Steven in Schoolpersons
Motocross events. Ian was a member of Scottish Youth Moto-X and Glenrothes Youth Moto-X
Clubs. When he reached the age of sixteen he started to compete against his Dad, and older
brother Steven in Enduros ,he usually beat them. Ian started the1999 season on hisYZ125
and then switched to the YZ250 and had good results with both machines. He was always
"up the track" (Lawhead farm practice track) or doing something to do with
bikes. Some photos of Ian and the bikes are shown on this page.
The memorial shield was purchased by Bill Butters one of our neighbours .Ian used to
garage his YZ in bills shed , and often watched Ian prepare the bike for races and
attended the meetings to see him race.
My thanks to Jim Goodall for preparing this article and supplying the
photos.
