Well done to all the riders who took part - and to those riders
moving up a class on great performances on the day. And
welcome back to riders in the over 40 class who haven't ridden
for a year or two - but will make 2012 interesting - Derek and
Grant.
2012 looks like being a great year again.
Motocross Scotland
started their assault on the Scottish cross
country championship with mixed results.
The Team
consisting of Allyn and Garry Scotland for the first round at
loch houses. Allyn riding his brand new Suzuki RM 250, had
troubles from the start. His bike failed to start on the line
and took a few kicks to get going. As he rode away he realised
the bike was bogging and misfiring. He continued to ride the
track having to stop several times to restart the bike during
the first lap. The bike started to clear after 3/4 of the lap,
he then set about moving his way to the front of the field aware
that he had lost a fair amount of time on the leaders.
He
caught and passed Derek Little now riding in the O40 class when
disaster struck again. His handle bars had come lose in the
clamps which resulted in a spectacular dismount from the bike.
He had to return to the pits to correct this problem. Returning
to the track to salvage some points, just after the hour mark
again disaster struck. His pit crew not realising the time let
him go out for one more lap than he should, resulting in him
running out of fuel at the furthest most part of the track. He
decided that he wasnt giving up and pushed his bike back to the
pits following the track. Where he refulled, putting in
consistantly fast laps until the finish.
Allyn said
after the race " this has got to be one of the toughest races I
have ever done. Pushing my bike back to pits took me about 40
minutes. Towards the end of the race I was getting cramp all
over my body." Garry, his first race back after 3 years away due
to a bad crash at Pathhead which resulted in him staying in
hospital for a week, rode a steady race in the clubman class.
Garry commented on the race saying "due to my lack of bike time
and the fact I'm still having problems with the shoulder I
damaged a few years ago I'm happy with the result.
Neil Chatham wins at full Chat
Drysdale
Motorcycles Neil Chatham won the first round of the SACU
Scottish Hare and Hound Championship at Lochhouses Farm near
Dunbar in East Lothian. Nearly 160 riders made the start despite
snow on most of the roads around East Lothian. The Melville
Motor Club event did not start well for Neil as Frazer Norrie
and Drew Harvey clashed on the first corner giving him nowhere
to go but straight into Drew. The pair took a moment or two to
get them selves untangled and they continued in last place.
Frazer took the holeshot and led around the motocross section,
when they re appeared after their first lap it was Ricky Mair
leading Frazer with Neil in third place having fought his way
through the Experts in the woods.
