NEEC Otterburn Enduro 2006 8th/9th July 2006 Otterburn Results 2006 ( see also www.dirtbike-traxs.com/forum ) With dry weather for Saturday the first day of this very popular event was a nice easy ride round - with the riders coming in almost as clean as they went out ( I was not riding - but it looked easy ....) The Championship riders on 3 laps looked to be working a bit harder - and most coming in clean on time - but as we have seen before Saturday is not Sunday. With some new faces in the organising team from NXC and a lot of behind the scenes working with the MOD to get the event it was another very succesful event - and one of the highlights of the Enduro calendar. It is a live military firing range - so course cutting is not recommended - bomb holes , unexploded ordnance and concealed personnel where you least expect them ! Saturday started off with 25 miles on a not too tight schedule to get the riders out on the course and enjoy themselves. Using a lot of new ground and avoiding most of the bogs it still required you to push on - but most riders seemed to have a good day. Neil Chatham in only his second Enduro got stuck in 4th gear when he lost his gear lever - but still managed to finish 3rd on Saturday - not bad on a 125. Stephen Gilhooley puncturing on lap one just after the start - but completed a lap - with the front wheel off the ground. Michael Lowrie won his class on the Saturday (E1 experts and 6th overall) mistake in the results as he was down in the E2 class. Not as much luck on the Sunday as his moose came out on the first lap , but still managed 2 laps after fitting another tyre. Sunday started off a bit damp and with 44 miles ahead of them riders were looking forward to 6 hours in the saddle. A longer course then 2005 it proved tight on time with all the Championship riders losing some time. Times were slackened off for the other classes and most riders managed to clean the checks. Ricky Mair continued his run of bad luck - after winning Saturday only to crash at high speed breaking the handlebars, throttle body, footrest and rad shroud . Alan Lauder managed a good 5th place on the Sunday - despite losing his right footrest after lap 1. Ahead of Paul Chatham - who lost 60 seconds after falling on the 2nd test on Saturday - but stll managed 5th and winning his capacity class on both days - with a course that allowed his 4 stroke Honda to show it's legs. Gavin Douglas - adopted Scot entered Expert after winning the Clubman class in 2005 and finished 7th Expert - well done. Scots featured well in the over 40's but Alex Kirk had to settle for 2nd place by only 6 seconds after 2 days racing to David Salkeld. Kenny Donaldson in 5th ahead of Martin Pennycook. Dougie Meek , Findly White and Geoff Pennycook followed soon after with Jimmy Patrick the last finisher home. In the Clubman class Matt Wright lead them in - with young 16 year old Neil Chatham in 3rd - with class wins inthe 125's . Great result. Rab Moir leading home the rest of the Scots in Clubman class - Robbie Moir , Steve Irvin, Reuben Welch. In the Sportsman class the win went to Stuart Mowbray - well done with Grant Miller pushing hard for 3rd.Ian Gilhooley managed a good 7th and Liz Millet in 17th - with some good test times. Another great event - and well worth crossing the border for. We'll be back next year. Ta
