SCOTTISH MOTORCYCLE SHOW 2002 - INGLISTON.
TEST DAY 2001 The Grampian Motorcycle Club's Woodside track at Elgin was the site for a recent test day of all the Year 2001 off road Yamaha's currently available. YZ80 - YZ125 - YZ250 Competition machines were tested by a large number of riders who had travelled from all over Scotland for the chance of an early season test. Due to the extreme cold the motocross track was unavailable but an excellent track had been set up through the woods. While this didn't allow massive jumps it showed up the excellent handling of all the machinery with numerous berms and whoops to practice on.
As well as the two stroke rockets the brand new YZ250 F and YZ426 F were also on test. The 250 proving a revelation to all who tested it with a great spread of power and masses of torque low down. Controllable power was the name of the game. Attacking the course was easy and you never felt out of control on the bike - the 125 chassis railing round berms and hauling the bike up easily on the newly designed brakes. The 426 also handled extremely well but was not quite so nimble in the tight woods. Ideal for the motocross tracks it is designed for, the extra power over last year is always on tap with a massive surge of acceleration whenever you let the bike go - the new chassis always in control.
The machinery was all provided by RIDEON M/C's courtesy of the owner A Hutchison with Yamaha coming up with the YZ250F just in time. Thanks must go the Johnnie and Derek Little for setting out the test track and helping organise on the day. A big thank you goes to all the riders who travelled up to make the day a success.
