Bon Accord MC Midsummer Madness

12 Hour Hare and Hound  at Tinto Moto Park

19th June 2011

Results

The first ever 12 hour Hare and Hounds in Scotland was a great success set at Tinto Moto Park. The Bon Accord club did a lot of work on the track assisted by local riders Craig White and Stewart Blackadder. Robbie Allan has a great facility here and the track stood up well to the constant traffic despite some rain which made it slippy in places.

Starting with a great Pits area where riders were able to park their vehicles right up beside their bike - a great benefit for a full day event. The riders started off on part of the motocross complex and then headed over the hill through grass fields and down some slippy off cambers before fighting back uphill in some rutted muddy areas.

The track was fairly flowing and just right for a 12 hour event - lose momentum and you had to fight to get back up the hills - but the views were fantastic. There were also some 4th or even 5th gear blasts for the fast boys.

Chris Shorey made the trip up from Plymouth and declared the track one of the best in the UK - he should know as he has been a top finisher at Dawn to Dusk. Hopefully he will bring his pals next year. He managed Ironman Over 40 and put in 18 laps - 2 more than any other Ironman. Second was Phil Hewitt evergreen ELRAT rider.

In Clubman Barry McKie put in a great performance to take the honours just one lap ahead of 16 year old newcomer Duncan Norrie - the youngest Ironman rider out there. Scott McKune took 3rd just one lap back.

Michael Tawse took the Sportsman win showing great determination to keep going all day winning by two laps from James Long with Bob Turner only one lap down.

Then onto the racers who hammered round all day with some ridiculous times in the team events.

Husquvarna struck Gold in the Experts with Fraser Norrie and Allyn Scotland  who had a great day with some very consistent laps despite ever changing conditions to just take the win by a lap from Mckenzie and McArthur. The Harvey brothers came in third after pushing the leaders hard all day.

In the over 40 team Mark Ritchie and Steven Currie (Snr) took the win from Gilchrist and Cooper by two laps. When Mark suggested Steven go out for one final lap - the response was " No I don't think I will !" spelt with an F**.

The Clubman team was a great battle all day as team Henderson - father and son - took on the three man team of Clark Barbour and Stewart and managed to open a 4 lap lead - awesome under the conditions. Irwin and Gibb kept going for 3rd.

Grice, Mechan, Carson and  Bertram rode hard all day and took the Sportsman win by 4 laps ahead of  Galaugher White White with Maguire Colligan Colligan 3rd on the same lap jsut behind. Close racing over 12 hours - just keep going.

Well done to all the riders at a fantastic venue - and thanks to Robbie and Margaret Allan for the use of Tinto.

Next year it will be event better.!!
