True Grit Oct 03 Driffield East Yorks Army A couple of intrepid Scots trekked down to East Yorkshire on a wet Saturday . Arriving at a dark concrete runway - we knew we were there when he heard the sound of generators - a feature of True Grit . Jose and Charlie were back for one of the most enjoyable hare and hounds of the year. Always a good course and expertly run by the Army Defence School of Transport - Exercise True Grit is a very popular event and this year included a round of the ACU Hare and Hounds Championship.
Steve Irvin and ALex Hood from the TA ( Territorial Army Volunteers) near Edinburgh also made the trip. Well worth it as they ended up as top Service Experts. Steve on 7 laps and Alex on 6. ALex has spent all year lugging his XR650 round wet Scottish forests so this must have felt like he was competing on a motorway. Well done lads
Alan McKinnley also rode . But he came down from Inverness - now that is commitment - he was rewarded with 5 laps and a smile. But the real stars are the Army riders on the Harley Davidson standard service 350's. Weighing in at close to a ton with the handling of a sinking tanker these guys are amazing. The top riders doing 6 laps - ( I did 6 laps on a much lighter and more agile WR 250f.)
Thanks to the Army for organising another great day out. And I nearly forgot - Jose beat me - 7 laps. Full results in PDF Format. |
