Provisional Results 25th October 1999 Report : Melville Enduro 24th October 1999 - Trevor HayA very wet Yair Forest waited for the 35 starters at the final round of the Scottish Enduro Championship for 1999. With the Championship already won in the Expert Class by an absent Derek Little, it was left to Richard Hay on one of his occasional Scottish outings to lead home a low Expert entry and win comfortably from Nicky Beavitt by over 70 seconds. The Clubman class was much closer with Musselburgh's Keith Baird winning by just four seconds from Stuart Livingston. That however is enough to make Stuart Livingston this year's Clubman Champion. Top Sportsman was Alex Kirk, 2 seconds ahead of buddy, Stuart Donald. The Melville Course planners had done sterling work to find a course which stood up under such wet conditions. So much damage had been done to the course during the '98 washed out World Championship that it was difficult to find a route without ruts. New going in places and no stoppers allowed one of the largest percentage of finishers ever in Yair with just 8 retirements. One retirement was Gary Long from Seascale who overshot a corner on the forest road in a big way and ended up with a broken wrist. Another retirement was top Clubman Gary Emsley who suffered two punctures. The end of the lap was particularly hard work for most of the entry but as ample time was allowed at the checks, recovery time made the event enjoyable. Again anticipating a wet day, times were perhaps easier than they might have been, but the rain came just as the last of the experts finished, leaving the organisers to clear up in the wet!
